Drink Coffee and Destroy!

Hey! Happy Sunday!

Sundays are great. Probably the best day of the week. No, definitely. Definitely the best day of the week. If you’ve got work that you couldn’t get to during the week, there’s always Sunday. If you worked too hard all week and you just need to sleep in, there’s always Sunday! If your brain is fried from a frustrating week and you just need to do absolutely nothing but watch the Lions lose (which they are currently down seventeen to three to Baltimore in the second quarter), there’s Sunday! Sunday is just there for you! Maybe that’s why I was so revolted when I had to write an exam this morning at eight thirty! Eight thirty on a Sunday! I remember last year as being even worse though. Our professors had gone on strike for a couple weeks so they compressed the exam schedule and added extra time slots which resulted in one of my math exams being held at seven in the morning on a Sunday. Not clutch University of Windsor, not clutch.

But do you know what is clutch? Our good chum Cristina Naccarato! You know how you have those people on Twitter that tweet constantly and its never interesting? Well, that’s exactly who Cristina ISN’T. It seems like she just always has something awesome going on! For example, earlier this semester she and her colleagues at Broken City Lab projected messages on the high-rise buildings downtown so that our American friends across the river could know that we wanted to say hey! But Cristina’s main squeeze is taking photographs. The vast majority of the photographs on our website are stolen from Cristina’s Flickr page because they’re just too good not to steal! So this year, Cristina vowed to take a photo a day for 365 days and she did! And she’s having a photography show at the Phog Lounge in Windsor where she will be COVERING the walls with her work. It’s called Drink Coffee and Destroy! The show will take place from December 15th until January 1st. I think it’s going to be great, and I will definitely check it out. Probably on a Sunday.

Actually, definitely on a Sunday! Sunday, December 20th to be precise. Yellow Wood, The Bulletproof Tiger, and Kid Brother are all playing at Phog that night and it’s a must see. I’ve actually never made it out to see The Bulletproof Tiger or Kid Brother, which in turn makes me the least scene person ever. Or maybe the least ‘seen’ since I’ve never been ‘seen’ at one of their shows. Either way, I’m a loser.

Oh yeah, and check out this sweet picture that Cristina took for us! Yeah, the one that’s at the top of this blog! We thought since we made a holiday song, we should have a holiday picture or two! And thus behold, another Cristina Naccarato masterpiece. Cameron Elsdon, whose family has more Christmas lights than Clark Griswold as it turns out, hooked us up with more than enough Christmas lights to make Tally look roughly equivalent to that Christmas tree in front of the Rockafeller Center. She was glorious!

Anyways folks, enjoy the rest of your Sunday! I know I will. And enjoy your week as well. To all my fellow post secondary education sufferers who must weather the remainder of the final exam storm, be strong!

Love!

Moneen! Tomorrow at The Chubby Pickle!

December 8th, 2009

4128458255_bb67f306cc_oHey Gang!

There’s a couple things I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention if you have a moment. First of all, Master Tracks aired another new episode last night, which means it’s just a matter of time until our episode airs. I’m stoked! Second, we’re playing with Moneen tomorrow night! We’re out of tickets to sell, but there are still tickets available at the door. This show is going to be so clutch, I can’t even wait. We’re playing pretty early, I think around eight or eight thirty, and we’re going to deliver a great set, I promise you, but Moneen is going to blow the bricks clean off the Chubby Pickle. S’gonna be unreal!

So we have a friend in Australia named Matt who was buying our records off of CDBaby. The deal with CDBaby is that you can buy the physical copy of the record as opposed to the digital download, so it’s great if you want the album artwork. But it ships our record from Canada, so I can’t even fathom what the shipping was to Australia! And Matt bought a whole bunch of copies to give to his friends because he’s the coolest guy in the outback for sure. And of course, if you’re the coolest guy in the outback, then you’re obviously the coolest guy in the world, because just being from Australia makes you cooler than anyone living on any other continent. It’s science. Anyways, to make Matt’s and anyone else living outside of Canada’s life easier, we are now an international artist on iTunes! Pretty cool, hey? I thought so too!

And check this thing out! It’s called Jango, and it’s brilliant. Here’s how it works. You hit up their website and you enter an artist that you like. For example, one of my favorite bands, “Augustana”. So I enter Augustana and it plays a great Augustana track. Then it picks out a song by a band that people that like Augustana may also like. In this case, it played me “Breathe” by Anberlin. Guess what. I LOVE Anberlin! But now here’s where it gets even better. The next song is from a band I’ve never heard of called “Days Away”. And it’s pretty good! So, I’ve just discovered a brand new band! And you can just leave it playing in the background while you’re working, or in my case studying. It’s great!  And we’re now on it, so when people search out artists similar to us, they may end up hearing a track from us and digging our stuff. Or, maybe somebody likes us (unlikely, I know) and they want to discover similar artists to us, so they type in StereoGoesStellar. I just did that to see who’d come up and the list included Saves the Day, Death Cab For Cutie, and Jack’s Mannequin! So, in short, I love Jango! Check it out!

Oh, and finally, I’ve gotten some messages with fans asking for the lyrics to our holiday song, When the Years Collide. So, I posted them on our lyrics page for you guys. Check them out here! Thanks for asking about the lyrics! And thank you everyone for downloading our holiday song and letting it be a part of your holiday season!

The Horrible Truth About Kevin Couvillon

December 4th, 2009

4129228390_80aee8e9e1_oHappy Holidays Indeed!

Well folks, the response to the holiday song has been incredible. I don’t say it enough, but we truly do have the best friends, fans and family on earth and we thank you all so much for taking the time to download our track! We wrote “When the Years Collide” as a means to let all of our friends that have moved away know just how much we miss them, that we hope they’re all doing well wherever they are and whatever they’re doing, and that we can’t wait to see them again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder I’m told, and I have to agree. The best part of the holidays for me is seeing my high school friends again and I straight up can’t wait!

It’s been an insane week though. That’s just how it goes with December I think. Christmas rocks hard, but you have to work hard to get to it. The holiday song itself was kind of a grind at times too. Kevin Couvillon at Blackbox Sound, our best friend, engineer and producer of the track, worked tirelessly to meet our completely unrealistic goal of December first completion. I’m not sure if you’ve watched the video we made or not for the song, but if you check it out you can see Kevin working away. I’m glad he’s in the video lots too because I want to make sure he gets the credit he deserves and hopefully when people are watching it they can get a grasp of just how valuable Kevin Couvillon is to us. Ironically, Kevin stayed up with me all Monday night teaching me how to use Final Cut Pro so that we could make the video in time. And by teaching me, I mean Kevin worked on Final Cut Pro while I watched in amazement. Case in point, Kev rocks hard just like Christmas.

In January we’re playing a show at St. Clair College. I’m pretty stoked about it too, let me tell you! I believe it’s for their “frost” week. See, it’s like “frosh” because it’s at the beginning of the semester, but instead it’s “frost” because it’s cold outside since it’s January. The date of the show is the thirteenth and we’ll be playing in The Hanger. Yesterday, Mick woke me up bright and early to go play a couple of acoustic sets at the college and it was a blast. We met some delightful new people and we got to hang with some great old friends. Then Mick bought a white guitar amp. Pretty edgy! This morning however, the tables turned and it was I that woke Mick up even earlier! If you had your radio dial tuned to CBC Radio One AM 1550, you would have heard Mick and I talking about the holiday track as well as the track itself. It was a great interview and they even gave us our very own CBC coffee mug!

Tonight (Friday), I’ll be playing an acoustic set at a very cool store in Windsor called “Made in Windsor”. The store features products made exclusively in Windsor, Ontario and is now adding a music section where they will be selling our music as well as some other great local bands! You can check me out at 10:40PM, but there are lots of other great artists performing as well.

8:00-8:30 - Pat Robitaille
8:40-9:10 - Mike Hargreaves (Michou)
9:20-9:50 - Adam Fox (Field Assembly)
10:00-10:30 - Stefan Cvetkovic (Efan!)
10:40-11:10 - Jeremy Coulter (StereoGoesStellar)
11:20-11:50 - Adam Rideout-Arkell (Yellow Wood)

Made in Windsor is located on Ottawa Street near Gladstone Avenue. Come check it out!

And finally, MONEEN! This upcoming Wednesday we’re opening for Moneen at the Chubby Pickle. How cool is it that Moneen is coming to Windsor? So cool! There are still tickets available, but not for much longer. Get yours at ticketscene.ca or contact us and we’ll try to hook you up. Do it soon though, because I don’t think they’re going to last much longer.

Oh, oh! And one other final piece of good news, good news! Master Tracks, the television show that we filmed back in August has finally started airing their new season. So, although we have no real way of knowing when our episode is going to air, we do know that it’s going to happen in the relative short term. We’ll keep you posted!

Love, love, LOVE!

Moneen Show! And Holiday Song Update!

November 25th, 2009

Hey!

I’ve been so wrapped up in this holiday song business that I haven’t even been thinking about the big show in a couple Wednesdays with Moneen! Tickets are moving fast, but if you still need some just hit up ticketscene.ca! That show is going to be off the hook!

Speaking of shows that are off the hook, we played the Yellow Wood CD release last Saturday and it was amazing. Yellow Wood absolutely nailed their set and the new material is clutch. Michou also did their part to make the evening an instant classic, and we contributed something as well! Kevin Couvillon really stole the show though. He successfully proved that the Blind Dog’s parlor stage is quite possibly the best sounding room in Windsor, given his technological know-how and his state of the art equipment. What was refreshing too was that people were noticing and giving him props. Behind any outstanding live performance is an outstanding sound guy, and it’s nice to see credit given where it is so deserved! In that same vein, Yellow Wood deserves much credit as their new record is nothing short of the bee’s knees. Check it!

What I’m the most excited about right now is our new holiday song though. It’s coming along and meeting and exceeding our expectations in my opinion! The drums, bass, and guitars are all done, so it’s my turn to lay down the piano tracks and the vocals and before you know it, it’ll be December first and you can snag your very own copy on the house!

But the take home message of this blog is to make sure you’ve got your Moneen ticket before they run out. I can try to sneak you into the venue in my coat, but they got pretty mad last time. Don’t put me in that position again.

Love!

COCA, Ghosts, and Holiday Songs

November 17th, 2009

4074280916_0fd43ca641_oHey!

Wow, we’ve been so busy I completely negated to tell you guys how COCA went! COCA is the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities. It’s a series of conferences for all of the colleges and universities in Canada and we were fortunate enough to play at the Ontario conference earlier this month. The idea is that programmers and student government members from campuses across Canada come and check out upcoming bands so they can book them at their institutions. So, as if that wasn’t exciting enough, it was also the maiden voyage of our new van whom we have named Talledega. She got us to the conference just fine! It was at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo and we delivered a tight set, I must say! But then poor Tally wouldn’t start back up. We tried coaxing her, pep-talking her, and even sexually thrusting her, but no dice. And I have to say, it can get pretty cold in Waterloo. We were lucky, because Kevin Couvillon was kind enough to come with us on this journey and he called in a favor from a fine gentleman named Drew Gertz. Drew and his delightful ladyfriend Angela (who is apparently a very talented opera singer) gave us a nice comfortable floor to sleep on. The bad news was that Angela’s place was haunted. It was a really old house, and although the inside was very nicely furnished, there was apparently a ghost in the attic that frequently came downstairs, opened the attic door all on his or her own, and throws things around. I was pretty scared, but also kind of angry. Like, what kind of ghost is that? Hmm… Angela and her devastatingly good-looking boyfriend Drew are downstairs being upstanding citizens again. Better go down there and throw their stuff around the house and be a general nuisance. When I die, if I get caught in the limbo between life and death here on earth, I’m going to catch a ghost bus or ghost train to Waterloo and smack that translucent jerk around a bit. Afterlife? More like get a life. Or I guess he or she probably had a life, so… maybe some cliché comebacks aren’t applicable to ghosts. In any case, you get my point.

But all that scary business aside, COCA was a success! And Tally randomly started up the next morning all on her own. She was probably just cold or something. She got us home no problem and she’s been running like a champion ever since! Mick and I went back to Waterloo on the following Saturday to man the StereoGoesStellar booth at COCA and we had a blast! We met some unreasonably cool people from colleges and universities all over Canada and some very nice people from some artist agencies as well. They also served us some pretty outstanding sandwiches! So, on the whole, COCA was a great success and I can’t wait to see what comes out of it for us! Hopefully, we’ll be coming to a post-secondary institution near you in the upcoming semester!

Oh yeah, but at the booth Mick and I set up, we were showing some videos and this video below was one that we put together of some of our tour footage from the past year. The folks at COCA really seemed to enjoy it, so I thought I’d throw it up here for everyone to enjoy. Check it out!

And I’ve got even more exciting news for you! It’s no secret that we’ve been writing new music, but what we haven’t told you is that we wrote our own sort of Christmas Carol! I guess it’s really more sort of a New Year’s Carol, but it’s a holiday song none the less! And as a thank you for all the support and friendship that StereoGoesStellar fans all over the map have been giving us this past year, we’re making the song completely free to download! We are currently in the process of recording the track with our best friend Kevin Couvillon at BlackBox Sound here in Windsor. We can’t wait for you to hear it! We’ll keep you posted on how and where to get your free copy. It will be available for you on December 1st, just in time to get your holidays off to a good start.

Love you!

Yellow Wood CD Release This Saturday!

November 16th, 2009

l_2d80b564f8ad41b7996395e84f8358b5Hey Gang!

November is a busy month, you know? Last week was pretty intense. We played a nice little show with Pilot Speed and our good friends in One Man’s Opinion on Thursday night at the Chubby Pickle. It felt right opening for OMO again, because back in the early days of SGS that was our thing! They were like our big brothers, cool big brothers that would take us to all the cool parties. Nowadays, they spend a lot more time touring over in the states which is awesome for them, but we miss ‘em you know? And mad props to the Chubby Pickle, because they just keep bringing in bigger and bigger bands. Last week Pilot Speed, in a couple weeks, mother truckin’ Moneen! That’s going to be amazing. Mark that one in your trapper keeper, December 9th. You’re not going to want to miss that. Moneen is Mick’s favourite band too, so he’s pretty much been bouncing off the walls all month with excitement. We’ve sedated him though, so he more or less just blinks now. He blinks twice if he’s thirsty. That’s how you know.

But hey, if you missed the Pilot Speed show, we’re playing again this weekend. Saturday night to be exact! At the Blind Dog! We’re opening up for Michou and Yellow Wood. Greatest lineup ever? Yeah, of course! But on top of that, it’s Yellow Wood’s highly anticipated CD release party as well! And it’s ALL AGES mes amis! Yellow Wood’s new record is called Son of the Oppressor and I’ve been privileged to hear it and it’s fantastic! If that’s not enough to get you out to the show, Iain has been playing bass for Yellow Wood lately and I’ve got to say, he takes that thing for a walk every show. So, for all of those closet Iain Kennedy fans out there, on Saturday you get a double does of the little guy!

Oh yeah, and hey, check this out! I stumbled across a couple of articles regarding Master Tracks, the television show that we filmed in August earlier this year. Remember that we recorded the song Twenty Two, which we have been playing live lately. The bad news is that we don’t get to hear the finished version until the show airs and the worse news is that we really don’t know when the show will air. Naturally, we’ll keep you posted, but the good news is that once the show airs everyone can download the track for free! Check out this article! I can’t wait to hear the recording to be honest. I know it’s totally vain to want to hear your own track so badly, but the anticipation is killing me!

Oh, and one final thing before I let you get back to what you were doing on this big old crazy beast we call the internet, I was fortunate enough to work with Kevin Couvillon, Sasha Appler, and Christina Ienna on a film for the Windsor 48 Hour Flick Fest. The film won best editing and placed third overall! I did the least amount of work and simply played an original piano score, but I think the film is brilliant! I’ve embedded it below! Congratulations guys!

The Coleman Delivery from Stina on Vimeo.

Well, that’s if for now! I’ll have more details about some exciting stuff that we’re working on soon! Like, tomorrow probably! So check back! Thanks for reading!

Welcome to November!

November 3rd, 2009

November is going to be killer. We have so much going on this month it’s crazy!

Here’s how it starts: we bought a van! Previous to now, we’ve been borrowing a beautiful van from our friends in Shared Arms, and Joey and Jesse and the boys have been so good to us and we can’t thank them enough. Fortunately for them, they don’t have to put up with us anymore! Our new van is glorious. She is big and green and she eats car washes for breakfast. Honestly. Today, I was fueling her up for the first time and there was a deal on car washes if you filled up your tank, so I thought I’d cash in. I drove her into the car wash and she was too big and broke the robot that sprays the cars up and down and scrubs them and everything. The car-wash operator was kind of upset, but I couldn’t have been more proud of our new van. She was simply putting her foot down and sending an immediate message that she was not to be messed with, not even by a space-age car-wash robot. We will have some pictures of her soon. I’d go outside and take them right now, but it’s pretty late and dark.

4073525395_6f9bc42d6e_o

So, our van’s maiden voyage will be Thursday! We’re going to Waterloo to play at Sir. Wilfred Laurier’s university, Wilfred Laurier University. There’s a big conference going on there called COCA. COCA stands for Canadian Organization of Campus Activities and it’s a chance for college and university student associations to shop new bands, comedians, DJ’s and other acts. We are going to rock it, promise. So, if you’re in the Waterloo or Tri-County area Thursday night, please come see us do our thing at 9:20PM at Wilf’s Restaurant and bar.

And then we’re going back to Waterloo Saturday morning for COCA again to setup a little booth and slap some headphones on the ears of whomever will listen, hand out some CD’s and other paraphernalia, and even show some videos! The goal of this whole COCA thing is to try to get shows booked at colleges and universities around Ontario and Canada. And you can help us out too! If you’d like us to come to your school, let your student activities folks know that you want StereoGoesStellar on your campus. We’d love to come! We’ll bring our new van!

So that’s what’s coming up this week, and here’s what you missed this weekend. StereoGoesStellar took the weekend off to hit up my brother John’s wedding. John has played bass with us a number of times when Keith is off wrangling cattle and fighting bulls and whatever it is Keith does when we’re not looking. In fact, John will be filling in for Keith on November 21 when we play with Yellow Wood for their CD release! Anyways, John has been more then good to us and we couldn’t be happier for him. But there was a bit of an uprising on the dance floor and Erik happened to have caught it on film, so we thought we’d drop that on here so you could watch the Coulter brothers drop it like it was hot.

We hope to see you in Waterloo! And this COCA business is just the beginning of what we’ve got planned this November. I’ll drop you all a line soon to tell you more about it!

Love you!

All Ages Show at the University of Windsor! October 30th!

Hallows Eve Ball 2 Poster

Work Sucks. I’m Going on Tour.

October 13th, 2009

3982507998_801b447649_oHi!

So, things have been really going our way lately, I have to say. We’re writing and we’re liking what we’re writing. We’re playing shows and liking every new person we meet and of course loving every old face we’ve met before. We just couldn’t be more grateful for the three ‘F’s; family, friends, and fans. Of course, if you’re a fan, then we consider you a friend, and if you’re a friend then we consider you family. So really, once you traverse the hierarchy really there’s only one ‘F’ I guess. In any case, we really appreciate your support as we climb our way to mediocracy in this dog and pony show that is the Canadian music business. Thanks so much. <3

We have been working really hard lately trying to get our name out there. Right now we’re trying to get a van that we can call our own, and we think we’ve found a beauty, but because of some insurance mix-ups we haven’t been able to get her onto the roads. Soon though, and that’ll be an exciting day! Our first van! Oh, there will be pictures. And tears. And tickles. Keith tickles when he gets emotional. Keith tickles HARD. But despite our lack of a van, we’re still hitting the road this week. We’re playing in Sarnia Wednesday night at Paddy’s Pub and Waterloo on Thursday night at Maxwell’s Music House! Please come see us if you’re in the area! On Wednesday we’ll be joined by Tim Davidson and Adam Rideout-Arkell too who are both excellent performers. It’s going to be a blast.

And check this article out! You might recall that we filmed an episode of MasterTracks for Aux.tv a little while back which should be airing early in the new year (we’ll keep you posted of course). I got to sit down with a delightful journalist and talk a little bit about the show and she dropped my name down near the bottom of the article! You can also see us in the studio if you look in the background of the article photograph. Hahaha… I know it’s not much, but I think it’s kinda cool. Check our the article at Dose.ca. The gentleman, Mr. Moe Berg, producer extraordinaire on MasterTracks spent a couple days working with us previously and is a very cool guy.

So, we’re going to go away for a couple days. We’ll be back Sunday! Hope to see you in Sarnia or Waterloo!

Love always,

// JerBear
